Will I ever be happy with myself?

Just a little side-blog because I don't want to go on about dieting in my main blog, some people just don't wanna keep reading about that sorta thing! I just want to be happy with my body and the way I look, and I guess losing a bit of weight is my first step to achieving that goal. I hope you find it useful!

Hello! Just thought I'd update...got down to 131.7lbs today! :D
Must do more excersize but with the parents away I've been so busy, and I'm workin quite a bit!

Crazy water retention! (I Think...)
Hiii, sorry it's been a while since my last post, but It's been a bit hectic.
I was 134lbs last time I wrote in here, but *then* I had a night out! For some reason I always way a few lbs less the morning after I've been out drinking and dancing. I've always suspected that this was because I'm dehydrated and therefore have lost fluid weight from my body. This seems to be true because Alcohol is a diuretic, and I found this quote on a website (http://www.alac.org.nz/BodyEffect.aspx?PostingID=671): "Alcohol is diuretic. This means it encourages the body to lose more water than it takes on by halting the production of the body's anti-diuretic hormone, resulting in you needing to go to the toilet excessively and so speeding up the loss of fluid from your body, leading to dehydration."

This makes sense, but the weight loss and gain I experienced on Saturday/Sunday was insane! Basically, I weighed 134.3lbs before I went out. The next morning I woke up (slightly still drunk!) and weighed in at 128lbs!!! Which is a crazy 6lbs weight loss in a single night. Before anyone comments, I've checked my scales. They are digital and have almost no margin for error. Now, I thought just for fun I'd weigh myself before I went to bed and guess what.....138.2lbs!!! That's 10lbs in less than a day! It's crazy! I suppose when you think of the few litres of water I drank during the day, and I didn't pee much, and I ate a HECK of a lot...so all that coulda weighed 10lbs (plus water retention).

I HAD to write this because it's crazy but true. Has anyone else ever experienced this? It happens to me a lot but this is the most extreme I've ever had it.
Aside from this, the diet is going OK but I had a serious OFF day the day after I went out. I find it near impossible to avoid carbs with even the slightest hangover. I did well for the first part of the day but then gave in! SO weak...
And it completely threw me for a couple of days but now I'm back to 137lbs which is sad cos I got down to 134! Gotta keep it on the wagon now.

Artificial Sweeteners and Sugar Substitutes
Hmm....I've been wondering about these for a while since a heard about the dangers of the chemical sweetener Aspartame. (Here is a great informational blog about it).
Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar and is used to sweeten SO many low/no added sugar products as well as sugared products. It's most commonly used in diet soft drinks such as Diet Coke and Fanta Z, however is also used in the non-diet varieties of these drinks. Have you ever seen the words "WARNING: Contains a source of Phenylalanine" on a label? Well, Aspartame is just that, and WHY would they post a warning on foods about a substance if it wasn't dangerous?
Now, I thought Aspartame was the only dangerous artificial sweetener...until now. When I first started the Atkins diet a few years ago, I ate and drank "Sugar Free" stuff freely. The next time I tried it, I'd heard about the dangers of Aspartame and its carcinogenic (Cancer causing) properties and so I tried to cut out Aspartame from my diet as much as I could, still allowing myself products sweetened using other things like sucralose and maltitol. I've especially loved eating low sugar diabetic chocolate from places like Thornton's and Boots.
I've always known that sugar free products can have a laxative effect - and it always says so on the label, but I never really thought about what they were doing to my body. So, today after eating rather a lot of sugar free Sula toffees and feeling really bloated and full of gas and cramps - as well as having diarrhoea - I decided to google "Maltitol", which is what said toffees are sweetened with.
Well...I opened pandora's box with this one! Pages upon pages of "the dangers of maltitol" PLUS Sucralose (aka Splenda), and tonnes of other sweeteners.
So, in thinking Aspartame was the only Polyol (Sugar Alcohol) i couldn't eat, I was way off base, and am now banning as many products as possible which have been artificially sweetened from my diet.
I'm gonna do more research on this and post it up on here, but in the meantime google it for yourself and you'll just see how bad these substances can be for you, as well as hindering the progress of a Low-Carb diet, unlike previouslt believed!

Day six :)
I haven't weighed myself today or yesterday, but Friday morning I weighed myself and I was 135.3lbs which meant almost 4lbs in as many days! I'm so glad this diet is working better for me now. I had a bad day yesterday though, and binged at night because Andrea came over and Lintie ordered a chinese! I started off well, ordered chicken and cashew nuts which is low in carbs, then I tasted Peter's chicken balls and couldn't help myself...how weak am I! Then I thought oh never mind, and went to eat some chocolate! Not so much of a big deal though because I'm straight back on the wagon today. I better expect to be a couple of lbs heavier tomorrow because it takes 2 days to correct itself.

I'm gonna start posting recipes that I create, so that other people can enjoy some good low carb meals like me :) The first recipe is stuffed chicken with cheese topped tomatoes, roasted vegetables and asparagus. I'll post that tomorrow as I gotta go sleep cos I have work tomorrow! Seeya! xoxoxx

Phew....the first proper day!
Ok, so today wasn't so hard. I got up at 11 and made some phone calls to sort a few things out, then went back to bed (I didn't get to bed until 4 again last night!) and got back up again at about half 2. I did a few things on my laptop and time went really fast because before I knew it it was 4:30 and I had to get ready for work! So after all that I didn't have time to eat, which isn't really good on this diet but when I got into town I ate the meat out of a mcdonald's cheeseburger which is carb free! Just chuck the bread away and don't eat the sauce! Then I worked from 6 til 10 and ate a chicken stir fry when I got in, and a few mouthfuls of chili left over from my family's dinner. The only thing is I really fancy something sweet after a meal so I've been drinking juice (Sugar free) for tonight but it doesn't quite hit the spot. I've made some sugar free jellies up for me to eat tomorrow though, cos they're yummy and not bad for you! I'm off to finish off my band cartoons now so goodnight! Will post my progress photos on monday next week.

I have Self Issues!
I'm one of millions of girls (and guys too I'm sure!) who have serious issues with their self image, so I've decided to keep a blog about it. I'm going to mostly focus on dieting and excersize, and write how I feel about myself every day. I wanted to keep this separate from my main blog because I want that to be for everyone to read, and this one not so much, I guess this is more for myself because I need to get over my lack of self confidence! With this blog I want to write about different things I am going to do to try and make me feel better about myself, the first thing being losing weight and getting fit. I also want to improve my skin, become more capable at public speaking, become a better performer and lots of other things, but I'm going to start here.
Most people think I'm loud and not shy at all but I really lack a lot of confidence and I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I was constantly put down while I was growing up. I'm gonna face facts now and get fit and better myself physically! I'm going to document my progress with pictures (This is a HUGE thing for me to put semi-naked pictures of myself up online, not something I would have done a few years ago! But hopefully it'll spur me on to lose the weight I need and get fitter.
At the moment I weigh 138.6 lbs and I'm aiming to get that down to about 124 at first, and then to 117 which will be a stone and a half in weight loss. Starting from tomorrow I'm going back on the good old Atkin's diet but I'm not gonna make a big hoo hah about it and tell everyone like I normally do because then I somehow always end up cheating and not losing the weight!
I'm gonna be exersizing too and I'll write all that down in here. This'll probably be reeeeeeally boring for anyone who actually reads it but I'm doing it for me so I don't really care! If I can help anyone else acheive their weight loss goals or ger their self confidence back without going crazy I'll have done something good and be glad about it!

I've been doing this diet on and off for a few years and found it really worked for me until recently, when I didn't seem to lose as much weight on it as before. So I tried a calorie controlled diet but it's much less specific and very easy to get carried away and cheat - which I did, lots! - so I'm back on the Low Carb lifestyle and I'm determined to make it work! Lots of people bad-mouth Low Carb diets but a lot of the bad things you hear are not supported with research and are quite often pure myth! So check out a few of my links, and if you're going on the diet, get yourself a copy of the Atkins Nutritional Approach - it really does help.

And I don't want to hear anything about Dr. Atkins dying of heart failure due to obesity!!!! That was nothing to do with the diet he devised!
